Edmond Hamilton
A partir de entonces, Edmond toca todos los géneros, centrándose sobre todo en la ciencia ficción. Tuvo un gran número de pseudónimos, como Hugh Davidson, que usó en Weird Tales, y para sus relatos de terror. También empleó los nombres de Robert Castle, Robert Wentworth, Alexander Blade y S. M. Tenneshaw en las revistas de los 50 o hasta Will Garth. A mediados de los años 30 el mercado de los pulp de Ciencia Ficción había comenzado a flaquear, y Hamilton se pasó a escribir relatos detectivescos, llegando a publicar cuatro relatos en el mismo número, pero con diferentes nombres.
Edmond contribuyó de manera decisiva a los primeros años de la ciencia ficción. Es el padre de la llamada space opera (un título erróenamente atribuido a E.E. "Doc" Smith). Fue de los primeros en concebir el viaje interestelar en naves espaciales, y el primero que imaginó un traje espacial. Edmond Moore hamilton nació en Youngstone, Ohio, el 21 de octubre de 1904. Su primer relato publicado fue "The monster-God of Mamurth", una de terror con un toque Lovecraft, que apareció en el número de agosto de 1926 de Weird Tales.
Sobre 1940 el mercado de la ciencia ficción comenzó a subir de nuevo. En 1939, Leo Marguiles había creado un nuevo heroe de ciencia ficción con la idea de que Edmond Hamilton escribiera las historias. Hamilton encontró que los personajes eran imposibles, tal como Marguiles se los había presentado, pero tras algunos cambios, que se detallan en el artículo anterior, nació Captain Future.
Captain Future se publicó en formato pulp durante solo 17 numeros, debido a los recortes de papel durante la II Guerra Mundial. De todos modos el Captain Future regresaría en otras 10 ocasiones en las páginas de Startling Stories. Los seguidores de Captain Future siguen adorandole hoy en dia. Hay 52 episodios de anime japonés sobre Captain Future, y una gran cantidad de comics en Francia y Alemania. Durante los años de la guerra, Hamilton se alistó, con lo cual la casa tuvo que buscarse a otro escritor que le sustituyera con "Captain Future". El desconocido escritor fue llamado Brett Sterling, un pseudónimo de la casa, pero no llegó a publicar más que un par de novelas, ya que Hamilton fue declarado no apto para el servicio, y regresó a lo suyo.
Acabada la guerra, el 31 de diciembre de 1946, se casa con la también escritora Leigh Brackett. El matrimonio vivió en un tiempo en que los profesionales del género eran, además unos fans muy activos, y asistieron a muchas convenciones de Ciencia Ficción. Durante la era de los pulps, vivieron en Kinsman, Ohio.Fue aceptada por Thrilling Wonder Stories (que anteriormente la había rechazado) y apareció en el número de Diciembre de 1952 como: "What's It Like Out There?". Este relato probaba que, además de relatos populares como los del Captain Future y esperanzas galácticas como las de Star Kings, Edmond Hamilton podía escribir un relato serio de Ciencia Ficción "dura".
En Septiembre de 1947, se publica The Star Kings en la revista Amazing Stories. Acabaría siendo una de las más populares space operas y los fans pidieron más sobre John Gordon y the Star Kings. Finalmente, en 1964 Hamilton regresa al personaje en cuatro relatos que se amalgamaron en la novela Return to the Stars.
Por supuesto, la historia más popular (y más veces reimpresa) de Hamilton, no es una space opera, pero sí una serie mirada sobre la colonización del espacio. Escribió este relato en los 30, como "Colonists of Mars", pero fue rechazado por todos los editores, indicando que era demasiado oscuro. Tras la insistencia de su esposa, Leigh Brackett, revisó la historia en profundidad.
Edmond Hamilton falleció el 1 de febrero de 1977, a la edad de 73 años, en Lancaster, California
