RODOLFO SÁNCHEZ VEGA
Saxophonist (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone), flautist, clarinetist, composer, arranger and director.
Working as soloist, he has performed and recorded with an extensive number of international artists as Frank Pourcel, Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole, Sara Vaughn, Henry Mancini, Sergio Méndez, Carlos Lyra, Tony Bennet, Barry White, Cal Tjader, Ray Connif, Chico Ofarril, Larry Corryel, Laurindo Almeida, etc. Besides of been part of several bands, he has been founder of many of them.
Due to his Jazz-like capabilities, Rodolfo Sanchez has reached international scenarios where the best America and Europe's jazz festivals take place. Sanchez Vega has shared the stage with Paul Desmond, Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Thelonius Monk, Oscar Peterson, Frank Colet, Azimuth, Paquito de Rivera, etc.
The company Beat Records of Italy distributes the long-play C.D. "Popo Sánchez; Jazz Fusion" all over Europe. In Mexico, Global Records distributes the C.D. "Yasú; Nuevo Amanecer". In 1997 received an acknowledgement from Emmy Awards of New York for the T.V. Special serial "Jazz tonight; "Popo" Sánchez and friends", which has been transmitted in Mexico and the U.S.A.
He started his career as an arranger and composer by winning the contest to create the background music for the "Mexico68" Olympic Games promotional shortcuts, which were seen all over the world. In this same area, he's produced arrangements for a huge caudal of artists, singers, T.V. shows, long-motion pictures, T.V. serials, documental cuts, Radio and T.V. advertising, etc. Several of these Popo Sanchez Vega's works have been prized internationally. The Muzak enterprise of New York distributes over a hundred of Popo's orchestral arrangements built over the basis of famous Mexican authors.
He has been Director, arranger and founder of two great Orchestras: "Spring Orchestra", sponsored by the government of the State Of Oaxaca, Mexico, and the "Sagittarius Orchestra" sponsored by the government of the State Of Mexico, being this last one celebrated by the London BBC as "an Orchestra with exceptional quality".
In an unprecedented act, in February, 1985 he directed and made musical arrangements for a monumental band integrated by over five thousand musicians. He has also been a Guest Director to many of the most important Symphonic Orchestras of his country and other countries, such as
The National Symphonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra Of Mexico City, The Philharmonic Orchestra Of UNAM, The Symphonic Orchestra Of UANL, The Traditional Orchestra Of Mexico City, The Fine Arts Opera Orchestra, The Symphonic Orchestra Of Guadalajara, The Royal Orchestra Of Morocco, The Symphonic Orchestra Of Lisbon, The Fine Arts Orchestra Of Puerto Rico,
among others. Maestro Sanchez produced also the required arrangements for all of them.
In April 1996 he was invited by the Universidad Veracruzana to become The Head Director of the Popular Music Orchestra, which was founded by this University in 1974. This Orchestra is now acclaimed as the best in its style. As Maestro Rodolfo Sanchez continues his indefatigable labor has been consolidated as one of the most important, commended, resourceful and best quality musicians that Mexico counts nowadays.
