A little Biography

1892 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien is born on January 3rd, of parents English, from Bloemfontein, Sudáfrica. His sister, Hilary, born in 1894.

1895 His mother (Mabel Tolkien) goes with her sons to Birmingham, England. His father (Arthur Tolkien) live in Sudáfrica, alone.

1896 Dies Arthur Tolkien, his family live in Birmingham four years.

1900 Ronald starts to study in King Edward's Grammar School.

1904 His mother dies at 34 years old.

1905 Los huérfanos se van a vivir a casa de una tía en Birmingham.

1908 Ronald starts his first course in Oxford, and knows to Edith Bratt.

1913 Ronald approves the exam of Honours Moderations.

1914 Ronald commits with his girlfriend of the childhood, Edith Bratt. Stars the First Word War. He returns to Oxford for finish his studies.

1915 Ronald obtains the licentiate with honors of first class in language and English literature. He  leaves to the war with the Fusiliers of Lancashire.

191 Ronald marries with Edith Bratt. He  leaves to the war in France. He fights in the Somme like second lieutenant. He returns to England with wounds caused by a grenade.

1917 While it is convalescent he begins to write THE SILMARILLION. His first son, John is born.

1918 Ronald is ascended lieutenant and he goes to Staffordshire. The war concludes. He returns with his family to Oxford where incorporates to the team that the New English Dictionary prepares.

1919 He works as independent tutor in Oxford.

1920 Reader of English language is named in the University of Leeds. His second son, Michael is born.

1924 Professor of English language becomes in Leeds. His third son, Christopher is born.

1925 Tolkien and E. V. Gordon publish SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN GENTLEMAN. Tolkien is elected professor of Anglo-Saxon in Oxford.

1926 Ronald begins to be friend of C. S. Lewis.

1929 His daughter Priscilais is born.

1936 Tolkien finishes THE HOBBIT.

1937 It is published THE HOBBIT. Tolkien starts to write THE LORD OF THE RING.

1939 Tolkien works in THE LORD OF THE RINGS in all the war.

1945 The war concludes. Tolkien is elected Merton Professor of language and English literature in Oxford.

1947 Ronald sends to the editors THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

1948 Ronald finishes THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

1949 It is published EGIDIO, FARMER DE HAM.

1954 It is published THE LORD OF THE RINGS, I and II.

1955 It is published THE LORD OF THE RINGS, III.

1959 Tolkien is retired as professor.

1962 It is published THE ADVENTURES OF TOM BOMBADIL.

1964 It is published TREE AND LEAF.

1965 It is published the North American pocket editions of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the cult begins to the novel in the university enclosures.

1967 It is published BLACKSMITH DE WOOTTON MAJOR and THE ROAD GOES EVER ON.

1968 Tolkien's Family goes to Poole, near to Bournemouth.

1971 Edith Tolkien dies to the 82 years of age.

1972 Tolkien returns to Oxford. Win the Cross of the British Empire of hands of the Queen.

1973 J. R. R. Tolkien dies September 2nd , to the 81 years of age.
